Grounded but with a dreamlike quality, October Mist 1495 – a gently shaded, uplifting sage green – has been selected as Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year for 2022.
Reminding us of a mystical, moonlit walk along a garden path, this year’s choice is said to evoke the silvery-green stem of a flower, and it certainly creates a canvas for other colors, and your imagination, to blossom. We can already picture this ethereal shade being popular in creating spa-like living spaces, like a calming bedroom, luxurious bathroom or inspired home office. It’sharmonious yet diverse, reliable yet whimsical, and meditative yet eclectic.
Andrea Magno, Director of Color Marketing and Development at Benjamin Moore, explains that when her team went in search of inspiration for the Color Trends 2022 palette, every person returned with something in a shade of green.
“It was a clear signal that we were being drawn to colors that were grounded yet whimsical,” Magno says. “We knew that the Color of the Year would be in the green category.”
After green took root at that initial meeting, October Mist rose above them all.
“One of the team members did a floral study,” Magno recalls. “That green stem of the flower becomes this connector—this enabler, almost. It’s able to bring together all these other colors.”
Versatility is one of our favorite things about October Mist, whether it stands on its own or bringing together a wide range of colors. In fact, that flexibility is present in the entire Color Trends Palette, which delight with a sense of escape and nostalgia while capturing a fresh take on primary colors.
Led by October Mist 1495, the Color Trends 2022 palette features 14 Benjamin Moore colors that embrace individuality, encourage color experimentation and make room for any design style:
